Oura Announces Its Ring 4 with New Design and Sensors

Outfit has just launched the next generation of its smart ring, the Oura Ring 4, available at $349. While the new device further develops what the company has been known for all along – track a series of health metrics such as sleep, exercise, stress, and heart health, putting the basis to empower lifestyle choices.

The new design for Oura Ring 4 comes with new sensors and the ring has managed to become slenderer and stay charged up to eight days. It had a novel Smart Sensing platform which used advanced algorithms as well as better sensors delivering quite more accurate measurements for blood oxygen level, both in daytime and nighttime heart rate, and breathing disturbances.

A significant design change is also the move from raised sensor bumps in the previous generation to flat sensors in the Oura Ring 4. This helps with comfort and allows for a much smoother interior for wearers. The ring will be available in twelve different sizes and six colors, one of them being a new black finish; you can now preorder it, as shipping starts on October 15.

Apart from the buy price, customers also need to pay for membership monthly $5.99 or annually at $69.99. The first month is free. Customers can pay the ring and membership through flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts.

The company has also redesigned the app that it launched, and its new features were launched for existing members. In the new interface, user data will be grouped into three tabs. These are called tabs which include Today, Vitals, and My Health. The Today tab features pertinent information that applies during a specific time of day. Further, the tab features shortcuts for accessing insights on sleep, activity, readiness, stress, heart rate, and menstrual cycles. In the tab of Vitals, explorations of more detailed data are available. Long term metrics for which they will be able to see are sleep trends and cardiovascular health via the tab of My Health.

The future features of the application will also include automatic heart rate and workout-type tracking within exercise sessions. Meanwhile, Oura is enhancing its capabilities relating to reproductive health with a new feature called the “fertile window,” which will notify users of their fertility status, estimated fertile days, chance of conception, and detected ovulation days. Some may get early access to this feature as they join the waitlist ahead of its rollout sometime during the coming months.

The Oura Labs is an app where people can try out new features. It’s now also available on Android devices, thus expanding the service limited until now to iPhone users only.
